The Leadership Challenge
Backed by 25 years of original and continuing research and data from over 3 million leaders, The Leadership Challenge is a comprehensive leadership development program based on the work and writings of bestselling authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. Their book, The Leadership Challenge, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. is now in its 4th Edition.
The point of view of The Leadership Challenge is that leadership is everyone's business.
In today's world there are countless opportunities to make a difference. And more than ever there is a need for people
of all ages, from all backgrounds, with all types of life experiences to seize those opportunities that lead to greatness.
More than ever there is a need for leaders to inspire others to dream, to participate, and to persevere.
The Leadership Challenge is about how leaders mobilize others to want to struggle for shared aspirations. It is about the Practices leaders use to transform values into actions, visions into realities, obstacles into
innovations, separateness into solidarity, and risks into rewards. It is about setting a climate in which ordinary
people accomplish extraordinary results.

We work with you and your organization to tailor this comprehensive leadership development program to fit your
specific needs.
The intense, highly interactive two-day The Leadership Challenge Workshop is the heart of the development
process. Pre-work includes the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI), which is an integral part of the
development process. The LPI is a highly valid and reliable 360¡ leadership assessment instrument based
on 30 "Behaviors" that roll up under 10 "Commitments" and five "Practices" to form The Leadership Challenge Model (see the box below). There are also post-workshop options, including coaching, designed to reinforce and apply the learning.
The Leadership Challenge Model
The research by Kouzes and Posner has revealed five practices that are common when leaders are able to make extraordinary
things happen. These practices are called The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership. They are:
Model the Way
Inspire a Shared Vision
Challenge the Process
Enable Others to Act
Encourage the Heart
